Billings
The town of Billings began quietly as a rail stop for the
Northern Pacific Railroad. Today, it is Montana’s largest city and a gateway to
the western heritage and natural beauty of Montana. The Western Heritage Center
in downtown Billings presents artifacts and photographs that document the
Yellowstone River Valley’s development. Bordered on the north by distinctive
rock formations known as rimrocks, Billings was established in 1882 with the
coming of the Northern Pacific Railroad.
