In recent articles we talked about how our ability to increase sales is affected by the people with whom we associate. We were reminded of how their thoughts and opinions influence our attitudes, our actions and therefore, ultimately our ability to improve sales through a well-documented phenomenon called the Pygmalion Effect.
We also discussed the deleterious effects of the "Negative Nellies" in our lives. You remember these people, the ones who seem to find fault with just about everything and everyone. We talked about some strategies for reducing the influence they have on us. This included putting some distance between you and Negative Nelly. The "distance" may be physical distance (don't spend as much time with them) or it may be emotional distance (don't let them get to you). Be more committed to being happy than they are to being miserable.
Knowing how much the people around us affect us, how do you attract and surround yourself with the type of people who will support you and your goals?
If you wanted to improve your tennis game...you probably consider hiring a coach and taking some lessons. If you are looking to improve sales, you could do the same thing!
Go to someone you know who has achieved the increase sales you are looking for and ask them for advice. Don't know anyone you would feel comfortable working with on how to increase sales? Go to the Internet and Google "business coach." You should be able to find someone who will help give ideas on how to improve sales, but who could also hold you accountable for taking the action needed to increase sales.
What I am basically saying is...find a mentor. Find someone who has achieved results you are looking for and ask for advice. Model their behavior and you should be able to produce similar results.
Another strategy for building a winning team is to align yourself with someone who is looking to achieve the same increase sales as you. "Buddy up" with them. Agree to meet once or twice a week to "mastermind" bounce ideas off each other. Set goals for the coming week's activity, then hold each other accountable.
