To be successful in making sales, a salesman has to differentiate himself from the rest. He should not only follow the basics in making sales, but also experiment with his own sales methods. However, following proven methods can be a good way to start making sales and finding out new techniques.
Among the most proven methods to make sales are:
Doing some research. It is important to find the right market for your products. Precious time is wasted when a salesman offers his products or services to the general public when the product or service is marketable only for a certain group of people. However, doing research does not mean only finding out where your prospects are, it also means you have to research on your product or your service. This will allow you to make a striking presentation for your prospects.
Being engaging. Smile when talking to prospects and avoid showing frustration when it is clear that the prospect isn't interested. This will not only make you look professional, but will also make the prospects more inclined to listening. Remember that you are building rapport when engaging with customers so it is a must to speak in a way that does not look to aggressive or too passive. Never make sly comments when a prospect has shown rudeness. Anyone who notices will surely give your business a bad name.
Learning how to negotiate. Customers will always consider buying cheaper products or availing cheaper services. To make the prospect more interested, offer him something he is sure to not refuse, but make sure you make a profit. This is what sets the competition apart. It is always a good idea to be patient when negotiating with prospects. As your negotiation progresses, the prospect will be more and more interested and will eventually take the offer. However, make sure you have a pre-calculated table on the amount of profit you can make while giving out discounts for different amounts of bulk orders.
Managing your time. Make a clear cut schedule regarding how many minutes a day you are to give to new prospects as well as important clients. This way, your effectiveness will allow you to find more prospects at lesser time.
Managing your territory. Divide your locality into four regions and allocate a set time each day for each region. Book appointments in places that are in close proximity with each other to cut travel time. Managing your territory well will allow you to create a footprint in each location. You will no longer be unknown in a certain locality but will be known all across your territory. People will refer you to more prospects because they know you are operating within their localities.
These are just some of the proven sales methods employed by successful salesmen. However, it is advised that you add a variation of your own proven methods to the ones listed above. Showing variety will differentiate you from the competition and will make more prospects remember your products and your services.
